Shock as mother kills a 1-month-old baby in Murang’a

A sombre mood has engulfed the village of Kigetu-ini in Kiharu constituency, Murang’a county after a mother killed her 1-months-old baby on Sunday night.

The 41-year-old mother allegedly killed the baby by hitting it with an axe and later drag the dead body into a nearby latrine.

The police officers have not yet arrived to retrieve the body.

Sarah Wambui one of the witnesses who is also a relative to the suspect said she confronted her but she ran away,

“The suspect is my aunt, I found her putting the axe down at around 8:00 pm when I inquired what was she doing with the axe, she ordered me to shut up and leave,” said Wambui.

“When I asked if she had killed the baby, she didn’t answer but ran away, I called other neighbours for help that is when we realised the child had been killed and thrown into the latrine,” she added.

The suspect who is also a mother of two has is being held at the chief’s camp awaiting arrest by the Murang’ Police, village elder Robert Njenga has confirmed.
