Sniper’s mother demands justice for her murdered son

The scuffle outside the chamber prompted Senate Speaker Amason Kingi to dispatch the sergeant at arms to restore order.

The elderly Ann Kanjeru wanted an audience with the house as she demanded justice for her son, who is still not buried 9 months after he was killed.

As parliament orderlies struggled to whisk her away from the chamber, Ann threw herself on the floor and continued wailing.

The events were recorded in a distressing video, which made rounds on social media.

Sniper was an influential politically well-connected blogger from Meru. Days before his disappearance and murder, the blogger had serious differences with the former Meru Governor.

He constantly criticized Governor Kawira’s administration, prompting the Governor to extend an olive branch.

According to revelations by Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki, Sniper received a call from Vincent Mureithi alias Supuu who is the Governor’s associate.

Vincent Mureithi invited Sniper for a meeting at the Governor’s residence supposedly to resolve their differences.

Sniper was picked up in Meru town supposedly to meet the Governor but he disappeared for 2 weeks. His body was discovered dumped at River Mutonga in Tharaka Nithi County.

Sniper’s murder revisited in Governor Kawira’s impeachment

Sniper’s horrific murder came up during the impeachment proceedings as senators demanded answers from the embattled Governor.

Migori Senator Moses Kajwang put Governor Mwangaza on the spot with his remarks as follows:

“People are dancing on the grave of Sniper. Can the governor tell us whether she is a suspect and if she is among those taken to court on suspicion or allegations of killing Sniper?”

The Governor denied any involvement in the murder insisting police already conducted investigations.

Her denial was not, however, enough to let her off the hook. The majority of Senators (26) voted to uphold the charges against her with 14 abstaining.
