President Uhuru Kenyatta scolded Salaries and Remuneration Commission(SRC) officers publicly on Friday while in Mombasa over late payment of security officers field allowance.

Yule mama wa salaries commission ako wapi? Field allowance ya hawa watu iko wapi?” Uhuru posed. (Where is the SRC lady? Where are these people’s field allowance?)

Uhuru ordered the Commission to start paying officers’ field allowance starting January 2020.

“So watalipwa lini? Work with them and they should be paid by end month. They are doing their job,” he said.

The allowance is expected to act as compensation for officers working in terror hot-spots in the North-Eastern region and parts of the Coast.

He also charged Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and the SRC to work on how security officers who have done exemplary work in their fields will be awarded.
