Mombasa County Governor Hassan Ali Joho has made four changes in his cabinet but the redeployment of former Transport and infrastructure county executive Taufiq Balala to the water, sanitation and natural resources docket has been challenged by the MCAs.

The MCAs are questioning Balala’s new position, saying he does not deserve to serve the people of Mombasa anymore because he failed in his previous docket.

“Taufiq should not be redeployed because for a long time he has evaded meeting our committees even after we summoned him. The transport docket has also been the most funded office but he has never come to explain how the money was used since we see no road developed by the county at the grassroots despite the massive budgets,” said Free town MCA Charles Kitula.

“We urge the governor to appoint people who will work for the people and not just seat in their offices in town,” he added.

Kitula also assured the public that the appointment of Balala will not see the light of day.

“I can assure you 100 per cent the MCA will reject the appointment of Taufiq Balala when the motion comes to the floor of the house because he has failed in his previous department,” said Kitula.

The three others who were appointed include Mariam Mbaruk who is the Finance CEC, Hazel Koitaba(health ) and Godferry Nyongesa who returns as the environment, waste management and energy.
