How to glam your home

How to Glam your Home

I love a glammed up home. It speaks to my heart. My home defines my personality and my taste.

You can achieve whatever look with your home and thanks to the internet you can look up for some ideas and inspirations.

And the beauty of it is you don’t have to break a bank to make your home stylish, classy and cozy. You just need to be a little bit more creative. By just adding a few things here and there you can make your home look so expensive at a stringent budget.

 Put up flowers

Fresh flowers would be perfect as the center piece of your dining table but heck it would cost you an arm or a leg if not both in the long run.  Look for aesthetic flowers that look as natural as possible and use instead.

We are operating on a tight budget here. Look for unique flower vases to add to the glamour. You can do small pot plants as well in beautiful porcelain vases.

Curtains

Curtains are not just for covering up your windows but to also add an instant glamour to your home. Of course with the right fabric and color.

Go for floor-length flowing curtains and hang them up high. Make sure they perfectly fit the windows and give your windows that framed look.   You can decorate the curtain boxes if your house still has them although I would suggest you invest in curtain rods. Curtain rods come in different designs and lengths, go for what speaks to your style.

You can opt for plain curtains or patterned. You can use shears or just plain curtains but I love my curtains paired with shears.

Wallpapers

Wallpapers date far back to the 1700 but have become so popular in Kenya in the last decade.  They come in different colors and textures and they are very affordable. You can put them creatively in your home, like one side of the wall or you can put the wallpaper borders.

You can get an expert to install or if you are a DIY freak like me, you just learn from YouTube on how to fix them.

Throw pillows

This works anytime and I know you probably have a number of them but now move from the normal all same color throw pillows, and play around with the sizes, color, patterns and fabrics. You can mix them up to bring out a very classy look to your home and seats.

You can even have them custom made with messages such as LOVE, HERS and so on.  With throw pillows, you are allowed to go wild with creativity.

Area rug

Look for a simple yet stylish area rug. You can get them even in the second-hand markets.  Look for good quality fabric that is durable and does not attract dust easily and one that is easy to clean as well.

Candles

I love candles, I find them so chic and the best part is that they are so affordable. They come in different scents, shapes, and sizes. You can layer them as center pieces on your coffee table, dining table or as standalone pieces on your open shelves.

Paint

Add a touch of color to your home. Be creative with the colors, play around with them to bring out the best in your home. If your home is dark, make use of bright colors to make your home brighter.  Paint the focal point of your home with a different color to make it stand out more.

Be a little bit daring; paint a different color for each room of your house. Coordinate the colors with your seats and other key accessories in your home

Shelves

Have a carpenter fix open shelves for you or better yet floating shelves. You can display your family photos, souvenirs and other unique accessories on the shelves. Don’t crowd them all in the shelves though and go easy on the number of shelves. Just a few on one side of the wall

You can have them vanished or painted to whichever color but white stands out better. I like the cappuccino shade of vanish as well but consider the color of your other furniture.

Invest in statement pieces

However much we are working on a tight budget, we can still afford to buy one or two not so very expensive statement pieces. It can be your coffee table, bookshelf, seats, dining table or even your wall hanging. Then incorporate with the other cheap ones. Make sure that you get pieces that stand out and look very expensive.

Mirrors

Mirrors are a cheap way to create the illusion of space in your home. Invest in one large mirror that you can put at the entrance, on the walls or hallway. You can pimp them by decorating them with Ankara fabric or antique wood frames.

You can also use a small mirror and place it on top of your console. I mean there are so many ways to use mirrors to decorate your home

Lighting

A well lit home looks and feels warm and cozy so Invest in good lighting. Look for a chandelier, lampshades and or sidelights to lighten up your home.

Less is more when you want to achieve a glamorous home. What you don’t need or use keep it away from your home. Don’t be a hoarder.

Always have your home organized, clean and neat. Just this is enough to make a house look stylish. Arrange your house to create space, layer up your throw pillows, coordinate your items in terms of texture, shapes, and colors.
