The Chinese government has issued a directive temporarily banning sale of wild animals as the country battles to control the spread of a deadly virus believed to have originated from a joint that traded wild animals as food. The directive, issued jointly by three top state agencies among them the Ministry of Agriculture, forbids the raising, transporting and selling any type of wild animal species until the situation is successfully contained.
China has also issued orders to effect travel restrictions with President Xi Jinping saying that the viral outbreak poses a grave threat to mankind. On Sunday, the death count at Beijing had hit 56 as Shanghai reported its first case. Close to 2000 people are reported to have been infected with the deadly virus.

The most affected province of Hubei has been locked down in a bid to slow down the rate of spread of respiratory complications. This deadly wave has been attributed widely by scholars to uncontrolled interaction between wildlife and humans, and further to unrestricted consumption of wild meat.
